I’m Eileen, work at Siren Interactive where we market #raredisease therapies & I’m fascinated by using interactive for health care #socpharm

:
@ @ Welcome first timer, Janelle. And Ellen so nice to “see” you!! #socpharm

:
@ here from NoviNordisk. Sorry I have been so scarce lately. #socpharm

:
@ Lurking from #cenFL #socpharm

:
Hi everyone–joining in for discussions on pharma and social media. Interested in communications and healthcare issues too. #socpharm

:
@ Lurkers are welcome! Thanks for saying hello though too #socpharm

:
@ #socpharm I create conversations and connections to intersect health with life-esp with women as activists. real time…

:
From Bostonish MA, hello #socpharm

:
First topic comes courtesy of @ #socpharm

:
So what is topic for tonight? #socpharm

:
What do you think of NEJM article about pharma & social media http://bit.ly/fE4Bg8 ?#socpharm

:
hello, i am a marketing major in @ ‘s #mkt111 class here at #campchamp #socpharm

:
What time is it in Australia?? RT @ I’ve been meaning to come for some time, but timing hasn’t work out. #socpharm

:
@ It’s 12 midday Thursday here in Sydney #socpharm

:
I had not seen this NEJM article about pharma & social media http://bit.ly/fE4Bg8. Let me scan it. #socpharm

:
adds nothing new ! @ What do you think of NEJM article about pharma & social media http://bit.ly/fE4Bg8 ?#socpharm

:
@ Agree it’s pretty much an overview of where we are now & what we’ve been saying for awhile ) #socpharm

:
I know last year at hearings there was lots of talk about doing research on consumers & online px health info. Any updates? #socpharm

:
Agree RT @ adds nothing new @ What do u think of NEJM article abt pharma & sm http://bit.ly/fE4Bg8 #socpharm

:
And for the research to be taken seriously it would have to be done outside of pharma to avoid appearance of bias. #socpharm

:
Agree w/ their point about research as well @. Lots of issues asso’d with pharma-funded research and credibility. #socpharm

:
@ @ I don’t think pharma-funded research is the only with credibility issues. #socpharm

:
Adds nothing new for we who are on this topic weekly but I have to think it adds new for the core readers of NEJM. #socpharm

:
Did everyone see consumer “watchdog” groups complaint w/FTC re pharma interactive marketing? http://bit.ly/e1y4TU #socpharm

:
Its a good historic summary and current issues for those not familiar. I will use in my company. #socpharm

:
@ Glad we could be of service! #socpharm

:
Research needs to evolve from multiple sources pharma, media, academia, FDA, etc., for is to see a consensus of findings. #socpharm

:
#socpharm Agree RT @ adds nothing new and which “disinterested” party will interject and take a stand for greater exploration…

:
Q2 – The FTC complaint seems to add another layer to the issue of digital/social media healthcare marketing. #socpharm

:
@, what an you tell me and #mkt111 about interactive marketing? #socpharm

:
Wonder how many complaints the FTC gets in a year? #socpharm

:
Is soln 4 issues raised in NEJM and consumer group complaints to educate public not to rely on 1 source of online info 4 advice? #socpharm

:
@ We focus on pharma interactive marketing in #socpharm, which is pretty unique due to seriousness of products & regulations.

:
Its quite a mouthful-hard to get thru let alone consider all it says! @ Q2 The FTC complaint seems to add another layer #socpharm

:
@ can i have an example? #socpharm

:
@ I like the @ approach use common sense for health info both online and off! #socpharm

:
@ I agree with you. #socpharm

:
FTC complaint not surprising. What is always at issue is that neutral means can be used for beneficial or greedy ends. #socpharm

:
Seems regulation is supposed to fix everything, but there will always be gaps. Common sense and education seem better approach #socpharm

:
@ Whenever a pharma co talks abt px drug needs to talk abt risks & benefits. Can be challenge w/limited space like tweets #socpharm

:
@ common sense is not as commonly agreed upon as we would like. -D #socpharm

:
@ Can you elaborate on FTC complaint tweet? #socpharm

:
My thoughts exact! RT @ @ common sense is not as commonly agreed upon as we would like. -D #socpharm

:
@ true, and common sense can sometimes go out the window when one is desperate I suppose #socpharm

:
Next topic is from @ How do you make sure social media integrates w/rest of your online marketing efforts? #socpharm

:
Best intentions can be secondguessed & esp. where $ is involved. Theres no harm in checks & balances. It keeps all honest. #socpharm

:
@ Agree FTC complaint not surprising privacy is the biggest issue facing sm I think #socpharm

:
Watchdogs watching capitalist practices is what makes for a well balanced and functioning system. They are doing their job and… #socpharm

:
Not a marketer so will dip out of T2. But my common sense tells me to make sure SM msgs complement your offline brand/mktg msgs #socpharm

:
I think it makes us do our jobs better. All power and ambition needs checking. #socpharm

:
The milliion dollar challenge -) @ Next topic @ How do u make sure SM integrates w/rest of online mktg? #socpharm

:
T2 Integration is assured when SM objectives are same as OL program objectives. Common objectives & KPIs align and integrate. #socpharm

:
T2 And communicate, communicate, communicate w/in teams. #socpharm

:
important aspects- to have strong brand position and style guide and common obj leading all sm and mktg efforts@EileenOBrien #socpharm

:
Now the trick is to establish and implement under common objectives and KPIs. -D I dont want to suggest its as easy as I said. #socpharm

:
@ and #socpharm– so sorry, have to leave now for family obligations!! thanks for enjoyable 1/2 hour! PR_in_PinkGreat insights from folks in the know for T2 – thanks! #socpharm

:
Next topic is little different, not nec related just to pharma how do you reconcile personal vs. professional sm presence? #socpharm

:
RT @ Next topic is little different, not nec related just to pharma how do you reconcile personal vs. professional sm presence? #socpharm

:
T2 Eileen, are you saying you have a personal SM life? #socpharm

:
This fascinating blog post from @ & comments, inspired this question. Read it when you have time http://bit.ly/eAEaVP #socpharm

:
LOL Wendy, no I don’t ) RT @ T2 Eileen, are you saying you have a personal SM life? #socpharm

:
T3 For me, it is the tools I use. FB just personal, Linked in just professional, Twitter a mix of both #socpharm

:
T3 I dont reconcile. I let them flow together but there is not a thick like between my personal and biz lives. #socpharm

:
thank you everyone. Very interesting chat #socpharm

:
T3 Mine is similar to @ FB personal, Twitter a mix of both but I try to stay true to my personality on both ) #socpharm

:
My problem is the # of companies now using FB pages. I don’t want really want to share my personal life with them. #socpharm

:
@ agree – have to stay true to self everywhere. But my prof colleagues don’t really need to see my niece’s bday party ) #socpharm

:
@ My issue is that I “like” dozen different #rarediseases on #FB. People think I’m a mess #socpharm

:
@ FB privacy settings let you go stealth for those cos. I like that the right cos find me based on my FB content. #socpharm

:
I don’t think I could work someplace that wouldn’t let me tweet. Others? #socpharm

:
T2 I have one sm presence that is professional but I make sure to let some light shine in w personality )) I am an entrepreneur #socpharm

:
@ After a while we know u don’t have those diseases but r just interested in them. Same goes for me & mental illness. #socpharm

:
@ I’m nervous I won’t get it right. Also wonder about pic appearing on their page. Does it suggest recommendation? #socpharm

:
@ T3 I dont reconcile. I let them flow together but there is not a thick like between my personal and biz lives. #socpharm

:
My professional life is also creeping into FB as @ has a page & other professional assocs too. #socpharm

:
@ You dont need permission from ur co tweet, FB, LI or otherwise if you have a smartphone. -D #socpharm

:
I learn so much on Twitter each day–news, industry trends, etc. It actually benefits my employer by enriching my knowledge ) #socpharm

:
@ Ahh, but is your employer enlightened enough to realise that? #socpharm

:
@ Reco is in the eye of the beholder. If you google me, do you think I reco the paid ads that show up w my listing. #socpharm

:
Hmmm, good point! RT @ @ Ahh, but is your employer enlightened enough to realise that? #socpharm

:
@ I think google ads are a little different. If your face is on a FB pg as a fan, you have linked yourself with that co. #socpharm

:
Anyone have a last question to raise? Or an interesting article to share? Upcoming event? Joke? #socpharm

:
@ You are 50% right based on who is looking. And 25% or 75% right is you thing those see care that much. #socpharm

:
Eg. If you “like”/”fan” your acc’tant, your friends make see as a recommendation. What happens then if acc’tant found to be dodgy? #socpharm

:
@ Agree. It’s just something I wonder… #socpharm

:
I recently attended my first TED event, #TEDxPhilly. What an inspiring event. My notes are here http://bit.ly/gTRw0j #socpharm

:
@ I heard #TEDxPhilly was great, I was bummed I was in Chicago. Thanks for sharing notes http://bit.ly/gTRw0j #socpharm

:
@ Yes, the dodgy factor is 25% to 50% to 75% on anyone depending on the day of the week and the context. -D #socpharm

:
