Maybe, but just designing a website is no longer enough.
Recently I overheard a client at a eMarketing conference say “anyone can design a website”. In this world of commoditized marketing it brought home to me how far we still have to go. Yes, there are many people who can design a website but the days of hiring a person in a garage to create a website that works for your brand are over. This is also true of traditional marketing agencies that have hired a few designers and think they can do internet marketing by providing the same marketing messages across multiple channels.
To make an impact in today’s internet you need to be able to do three things well:
Attract the right people to your site — and even further to the right page of your site through search engine marketing based on research, (both optimization and thoughtfully placed ads)
Engage the user with the right conversion events, usability, interactivity and service offerings.
Retain the user with useful content updated on a regular basis, and constant push and pull tactics based on solid metrics to keep up with the every changing web environment.
Can anyone design a website? Maybe, but just designing a website is no longer enough.
