Hello %%First Name%%,

We agree with Med Ad News that 2011 is going to be the Year of the Empowered Patient. Siren’s founder and president Wendy White was quoted in the article, talking about the importance of entering into a relationship with patients based on trust and authenticity.

2011 will also continue the pharmaceutical industry’s exploration of social media. The FDA may, or may not, come out with guidance this year, but smart pharmaceutical companies are already taking advantage of the most important part of social media: listening to the conversation. Pharma marketers can safely listen and learn from the conversations going on around their brand.

As smartphones gain wider adoption, mobile marketing, including health applications, will play an increasing role. We look forward to an exciting year!

Research Insight:
Patients Want More Information From Doctors

A research study found physicians are not doing enough to educate patients about disease management. The survey found 95% were looking for more comprehensive information about disease management, and 77% said they hadn't received any written information about their illness or medications directly from the physician.

Patients surveyed said specific types of information are
“very much” or “extremely” valuable, including:

• Details on the importance of follow-ups and tests 94%
• Dietary recommendations based on condition 86%
• Online resources to help manage a condition 84%
• Changes in lifestyle that might be required 82%
• Information on medications and potential side effects 78%

The online sample of 7,028 respondents was conducted in September 2010, with a margin of error of plus or minus 0.94%, for MedTera.
