SIREN INTERACTIVE PRESENTS SOCIAL MEDIA EXPERTISE AT RARE DISEASE CONVENTION

Oak Park, IL (October 10, 2011) – Wendy White, founder and president of Siren Interactive, will be sharing her expertise on social media and rare disease as a panelist at the 1st Annual U.S. Conference on Rare Diseases and Orphan Products hosted by the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) and the Drug Information Association (DIA). The event is scheduled for October 11–13, 2011, in Washington, DC. Wendy will be presenting on Thursday, October 13, in the session track entitled “Accelerating Development of New Treatments.”

“Rare patients and caregivers truly are ‘power users’ of social media, and there’s a real opportunity for pharma and healthcare companies to effectively engage in an online dialogue,” said White. “I’m honored to be featured as a panelist at this conference and looking forward to contributing to the discussion specific to social media as it relates to rare diseases and disorders.”

The event will help further the learning and collaboration among patient advocates, researchers, corporations, government officials, and investors in the development of rare disease treatments. Currently, less than 10 percent of the nearly 7,000 rare diseases have an FDA-approved treatment.

Additional support for the conference is being provided by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), European Rare Diseases Organization (EURORDIS), and Duke University School of Medicine.
