Associate Creative Director

Functional Overview

The Associate Creative Director (ACD) is responsible for the day-to-day management of the creative team and the creative product. This position is responsible for working with the VP, Creative Services to guide and shape the user experience design solutions and serves as one of the focal points of the creative relationship with Siren clients. The ACD works with the creative team to ensure that the creative product Siren delivers is on brand and aligned with the creative brief. She / He champions and establishes experience design methodologies within overall Siren delivery methodology and manages an internal team of Experience Designers, Developers, and Content Strategists. While overall responsibility for achieving corporate and department objectives lies with the VP of Creative Services, the ACD partners with him/her ensuring the achievement. Most notably this includes responsibility for ensuring project profitability through account satisfaction: budgeting, managing, tracking and reporting on project profitability. Additionally, this position works with training to ensure Sirens are receiving top level training.

Core Responsibilities

  • Works to establish a vision for Experience Design within the company and serves as steward to build a culture that appreciates, understands and can effectively implement User Experience Design into the development of all client-based solutions.
  • Creates long-term plan for department growth based on shared vision and collaboratively defined standards and processes.
  • Promotes continual creative improvement and a culture of innovation, excellence, and accountability.
  • Working with Business Development and/or Account Management to develop and deliver innovative proposals and pitches to capture both organic account growth and new business diversity opportunities.
  • Working closely with Business Development and Project Management, manage execution of the integrated Siren marketing program on an on-going basis including the blog, e-newsletter and Web site, while being responsive to the clients’ needs, deliverables and deadlines.
  • Establish creative strategy, participate (with Project Management / Account Management) in initial scoping of budgets & schedules for key accounts / projects.
  • Upholds quality standards of all creative deliverables. Educates and enables strong aesthetic sense and intuitive understanding of what makes a truly great interactive / customer experience.
  • Ensures that the strategy for the brands we manage is being reflected in the work the team produces.
  • Creates internal structure to enable regular critique of creative.
  • Collaborates to develop multidisciplinary QA process/ procedures and ensures adherence among all teams to developed process.
  • Works with other departments to scope project teams based on understanding of internal current and future utilization.
  • With project management, tracks resource utilization with goal of balancing workloads within team.

Department Leadership

  • Meets regularly with team members. Advises and mentors, addresses concerns, takes questions and issues to higher management.
  • Effectively utilizes each team member’s skillset.
  • Motivates team to work together and across departments in the most efficient manner.
  • Performs group-related administrative tasks such as reviewing/approving time cards and approving requests for vacations/personal days, etc.
  • Leads in regular departmental status meetings, keeping team well informed of changes within department and accounts.
  • Provides opportunities to improve knowledge of and skills in Experience Design for a variety of deliverables such as websites, email communications, white papers, eLearning, etc., and provides opportunities to learn/improve skills with tools specific to work practices.

Siren Leadership Management

  • Participate and report on key relevant information to management team.
  • Work with senior management to define strategic direction and goals for agency.
  • Suggests areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions.
  • Actively support agency’s efforts to grow profitably, and leverage other senior management team members to support effort.
  • Represent Siren at key conferences and relevant associations when necessary.

Professional Development

  • Remains on the forefront of new and emerging technologies and healthcare industry practices, and the potential application on client engagements.
  • Expand knowledge in the areas of website development, interactive design and development, Exact Target/Email marketing, SEO, and other areas in which Siren offers its services.
  • Participate in all relevant internal training and education.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
  • Remains on the forefront of new and emerging technologies, and the potential application to client engagements.

Experience & Skills

  • The ACD has at least 7 years’ experience working within agency and web development environments. Broad-based understanding of UX design process from strategy through implementation. Breadth of experience leading multidisciplinary teams to create successful UX experiences. Client relationship and business development skill required. Managerial experience with respect to Budget and Scoping.
